We entered a competition together with PMA architects. In this case, it was a competition to design a library located in the middle of a housing estate. In terms of scale, it was a relatively small building, so we worked a lot with the variability of its space. The ground floor comprises the children's section and the reference desk, from which the librarian can observe what is happening in the entire area. Stairs lead to the upper, adult floor which can be also used as an auditorium.
Just take a break
We wanted to minimalize the difference between “out there” and “inside the library”. In order to link the two worlds, we extended the library roof so that it also covers the adjacent sidewalk. This turned the library into a natural stop for passers-by.
